I am going to Cooperstown, NY.?
What is the best airport to fly into? JFK to Cooperstown is 200 miles away, so is there a closer one? Or do I fly into one of the main airports and then take a smaller plane to get closer to Cooperstown? I will also need to rent a car, so I have visions of showing up at a mom and pop car rental and ending up with a Pontiac Aztec.
I’m coming from the SF Bay area, so I don’t know alot about that part of NY…
I would fly into Albany Airport, rent a car, and drive to Cooperstown. We don’t have public transportation in rural areas of NY State, and you definitely will need a car.

Oneonta, NY, is only about 20 miles south of Cooperstown, and has overnight accommodations. Cooperstown is very crowded from Memorial Day to Labor Day, so if you can visit at any other time, it would be easier.
Cooperstown does have cheap public trolleys, so you can park your car at one of the stops and travel to all the attractions without having to search for a parking spot. The parking is horrendous during the summer!
